Gary and I are traveling to Austria and Germany next month.
What does this have to do with family history?
Well, we’re going to those places specifically because that’s where our most recent immigrant ancestors came from.
Gary’s 2nd great-grandfather, Benedict Taschwer, was born in Austria on March 20, 1882. He arrived in America on December 7, 1903. (You might also be descended from him if you’re related to Gary’s grandmother, Karen McDonald.)
My 4th great-grandmother, Thekla Nübling, was born in Germany on September 29, 1805. She arrived in America on June 20, 1828. (You might also be descended from her if you’re related to my grandfather, Richard Mitchell.)
We’ll spend a few days in Thekla Nübling’s hometown in Germany. Then we’ll head to Austria to spend another few days in Benedict Taschwer’s hometown. After that we’ll wrap up the trip back in Germany — at Oktoberfest, totally unrelated to all this genealogy stuff!
Keep an eye on your inbox for more details about Benedict Taschwer, Thekla Nübling, and our upcoming adventure to the motherlands.
